PREMIERE: MAN ALIVE – “COLOURS”

Plucked from a forthcoming debut EP, the Kodaline guitarist’s side project pushes stylistic boundaries with his sophomore offering.

Mark Prendergast is a towering industry figure, having found great success as the guitarist of the chart-topping, sonically immersive Kodaline. Now, we find Prendergast reaching out beyond the band’s crowd-pleasing sound, taking instead a left turn towards the avant garde with a provoking solo project, Man Alive.

Following a debut single under the alias, “Be Someone”, dropping last month Prendergast has now returned to cement the sonic direction of the project with “Colours”. The second teaser from an upcoming debut EP, poised to be released no 15th September, with the same name, the title track is a psychedelic delight, an explorative and savvy alt-pop offering with a shimmering, glittery edge. Lyrically pure with flowing undercurrents of love and affection, it’s a gorgeous and disco-infused cut that leaves us highly anticipating the debut EP.

Talking on the forthcoming body of work, Prendergast explains, “I was just like a kid in a candy shop when making this EP. When you’re in a band and you get it right, there’s a confidence that comes from a gang mentality, and that’s great, but this was the total opposite. Just the idea of going solo was a thrill, but the songs always came first and drove everything. Like everybody else in this world, you go through moments where you’re fucking great and you go through moments where you’re not. I suppose each song is just about a different kind of emotion, and that discovery of figuring out who you are and all that kind of craic.”
