First launched in 2018 in partnership with Luma Arles and the ENSP in Arles, the Dior Photography and Visual Artist Awards for Young Talents is now on its sixth edition. Continuing its mission to discover and promote emerging artists, it brings together students and alumni and offers them the opportunity to create work based on the theme of “Face to Face”. The artists looked to their own family, ancestry, and identity to produce personal and powerful photo series and videos driving conversation.

The 2023 edition’s jury was presided over by Rafael Pavarotti, a Brazilian fashion photographer who uses the medium to represent diversity, who recently declared Iris Millot and her photo series Mont Lion the winner. Combining still life with portraiture, she captures her great-aunt Hélène, an impactful woman who has been cultivating her family’s farm land in the middle of a forest for 40 years, and sparks a conversation about the power of life choices and their impact on generations to come. Incorporating aspects of Hélène’s personal past with historical movements such as farming history and the Women’s Liberation Movement, Millot creates a dynamic and captivating story.

The exhibition of works by the 12 finalists is on view now until September 24, 2023, in the Grande Halle at Luma Arles.
