PREMIERE: MACKENZIE — “ORDINARY”

Reading’s rising alt-pop artist has a new single out now — and it is anything but ordinary.

Mackenzie Burke, known artistically as Mackenzie, is the alt-pop-rock singer-songwriter who needs to be on your radar. Crafting uplifting pop anthems, she pens lyrics that will have you dancing, singing, and crying — potentially all at once. She blends the musical influences of her childhood, from her father’s speakers blasting rock songs from acts such as AC/DC to her own CDs echoing the voices of her generation’s powerful singer-songwriters, such as Avril Lavigne, Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. Finding a balance through her relatable, honest lyrics, captivating vocals, and all-encompassing sound, she has mastered her own niche and truly carved her own way.

Following the success of her recent single “I Hate July”, Mackenzie has released “Ordinary”. Lyrically, the track contemplates the life of a creative and how it feels to forge a life outside of the expected, or “norm”. Written after a night out with a friend, where they discussed how different their lives were — heading to a gig while surrounded by people in suits heading home from work — it is personal, infectious, and beautiful. Feeling free living her life outside of a 9-5, it is easy to feel how joyful Mackenzie feels about this chapter of her life — and hard not to feel bounds of happiness with her.
