PREMIERE: SODA BLONDE – “BAD MACHINE”

The Irish band are back, announcing their sophomore album and sharing a new single.

Irish four-piece Soda Blonde have been turning heads since introducing themselves with two explorative and refined EPs – ’19’s “Terrible Hands” and ’20’s “Isolation Content” – and have since only gone onto cement their acclaim. 2021 saw them release their debut album, Small Talk. The LP was widely acclaimed, reciting a nomination for RTÉ’s Choce Music Prize for Album of the Year. The genre-bending act have now returned, with news of their highly anticipated sophomore album, Dream Big, which is set for release on September, unveiling a fresh teaser single alongside the announcement.

Entitled “Bad Machine”, Soda Blonde’s latest offering is a indie stormer; distorted, driving synths and snappy percussion act as a foundational backdrop before leading into a hazy, swirling and memorable hook. The vocals are engaging and endoscopic, floating atop the captivating instrumental.

Speaking on the track, the band’s guitarist, Adam O’Regan, adds: “This idea that ‘every part of me is a bad machine breaking everything all the time, every part of me has been wired to repeat, I’ve got a bad desire by design,’ it’s this idea of recognizing that this is just a part of who you are and going with that; but it’s a double-edged sword. Sometimes taking a chance, being spontaneous and taking a risk – they’re not always the safest moves to make, but that propensity to dare is what makes us great. We wouldn’t exist without it.”

Our first glimpse of the forthcoming album has drawn us further into the sonic world of Soda Blonde, with the new album set to be an artistic manifesto of the band, a razor sharp example of their artistic progression and effortless potential.
