Arliston is the work of vocalist and instrumentalist Jack Ratcliff and producer and instrumentalist George Hasbury. After firmly positioning themselves in the indie scene with their 2018 EP, “Hawser”, the duo is back with their forthcoming EP set to release next month. “451” marks the third single off of the project, following “Pisco Sours” and “How In Heaven”. As we continue to move into this new chapter of Arliston, we are once again greeted with captivating soundscapes and thought-provoking lyrics.

Their new single, “451”, is a chilling and hypnotic track inspired by Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. As complex and dynamic as the novel itself, “451” translates dystopian, futuristic ideas into a musical masterpiece. Its music video takes this to a visual dimension, further exploring themes of the book through burning books, building and destroying, and playing with vintage TVs and nostalgia-infused camera quality. Surrealist and eerie, “451” brings Fahrenheit 451 — which was already ahead of its time — into 2023. In the digital age, its themes are as relevant as ever before.

“I was reading Fahrenheit 451 when we wrote this song and was completely hooked,” explains Ratcliff. “George came up with this amazing beat in 7/8, and it felt like the perfect off-kilter sound to fit a song about a dystopian future where everything is just a little off too. The video is a love letter to the book, just like the song itself. We wanted to create as much of a sense of that ambiguous, nostalgic future as possible. So the 1940’s TV and filming in VHS was a big part of creating that atmosphere.”
