Singer-songwriter Will Heard grew up drawn to music, and the solace it provided him. At only ten years old, he played the saxophone, guitar, and piano — and quickly thereafter ventured into songwriting. Using his pen and voice to work through emotions and express his feelings, he started writing about serious topics, from his parents’ divorce to the sudden death of his step-sister. Remaining just as personal today, he has developed his sound through five years of work — blending jazz, acapella, hip hop, and R&B into a cohesive soundscape recognisably his own, working with the likes of Anne Marie, Rudimental & Klangkarussell along the way.

Heard will release his debut album later this year, and we now have a taste of what to expect. We are so excited to premiere his new single, “Flashlight”, the first off of the forthcoming album. A groovy, alluring track, it combines smooth, soulful vocals with a strong beat and funk-infused sonics. As Will sings about finding inspiration and the light in his life, we truly feel him brighten and shine. Uplifting and introspective, it is a beautiful display of the songwriter coming into his own space and illuminating the music industry with his vision, sound, and potent messages.

“As soon as I heard the beats and groove for this track they spoke to me in quite a deep way — and reminded me of rolling through London late at night,” Heard says. “The lyrics and melody came pretty quickly – the song is me addressing where I’ve been and it’s about finding that thing that illuminates your world and makes you feel inspired — for me that’s harmony and groove… and music”.
