R&B and soul singer-songwriter Alanna Royale’s new single, “Run Around”, combines confident vocals and sonics with vulnerable, personal lyrics and messages. Marking a departure from grand band-style production, it shows a more stripped back, lyric-focused chapter for the artist. This shift came from the pandemic, when Alanna made the bold decision to discard an entire album she had been working on in order to create a project that felt more true to her. Back now with a focus on songwriting and articulating her emotions, this new project shows the seemingly all confident star opening up about the struggles she’s been dealing with behind closed doors.

“Run Around”, along with the LP, was produced by Kelly Finnigan of Monophonics. Combining nostalgic pop with a current soul sound and universal themes, it is the perfect summer anthem. An optimistic tale with an infectious melody, it concisely captures the inner debacle of wanting to chase a love interest but also worrying you’re wasting your time. On the track, Royale says, “Despite what society, your own history, or friends say, if you have a gut feeling that something is good then you have to ignore those factors and go for it.”
