ALAN CHANG — “LOVE AS A WEAPON”

After working with Michael Bublé for almost two decade, the California artist has stepped out on his own with an upbeat alt-pop offering.

Alan Chang spent almost two decades working with Michael Bublé. As his musical director, co-writer, and pianist, he travelled the world and performed hits on stages to sold-out shows. Although the experience was undoubtedly incredible, he made the big decision in 2019 to step out on his own. And, lucky for us, pivoting his career means lush new singles. In a new single, “Love as a Weapon”, he details this departure: “I wrote that song a few days after I told Michael I was quitting. It was almost like a partner asking for a divorce. Suddenly, all these… different feelings came up. That song is a form of therapy.”

Captivating and experimental, “Love As A Weapon” is an uptempo alt-pop masterpiece with jazz notes and soulful vocals. It is groovy and eccentric, and repositions Chang firmly at the forefront of the scene after his 2017 album. Of course, piano runs through the track, a potent reminder of his long career in the music industry. Though his solo work is new, it highlights the expertise that Alan has become known for. Putting his own voice to the tracks, he lets the world into his mind and shows he has something to say.
