PREMIERE: BABY GOT BACK TALK — “OPPOSITE OF IMPOSTER SYNDROME”

Playful punk meets alt-rock with the indie group’s new single, released ahead of their upcoming EP, Wince, Repeat.

Bursting into the indie scene with their 2017 release, Take This The Wrong Way, the band behind Baby Got Back Tack continues to put their own spin on punk music. Their most anticipated release to date, “Opposite of Imposter Syndrome”, is out now — and did not disappoint. Contrasting upbeat sonics with melancholy lyrics, it plays with irony. The track will bring you to your feet and get stuck in your head, while it discusses social issues and hard-hitting topics all at once.

Absolutely infectious, it’s reminiscent of ‘00s alt-rock, with fun and playful lyrics that are sure to stand the test of time. The music video, created by Ross Louis Klein, adds to this nostalgia with bold colours and vibrant scenes featuring the band members singing to the camera, in a bathtub, with a mannequin, and through a mirror.

“As much as punk music is a vehicle for expressing disaffection with the status quo, it’s also an outlet for humour and weirdness,” explains Baby Got Back Tack. “Tapping into both the playful and political aspects of the genre is probably our sweet spot as a band. Our new single ‘Opposite of Impostor Syndrome’ is a case in point. There’s this pervasive, wrongheaded right-wing idea that gender nonconformity is a social contagion, so we thought it would be fun and perverse to make a song about gender dysphoria (and, er, self-loathing) as infectious as possible.”

With G’Ra Asim on bass, Rhiana Hernandez on synth, and Jake Lazaroff on guitar, the three members of the band sing vocals for their stellar tracks. Baby Got Back Talk’s upcoming EP, Wince, Repeat — featuring “Opposite of Imposter Syndrome” — will be out 21 July.
