WATCHING… Bernard Garby’s Daily Fashion News
Have you ever imagined what it would feel like to start your morning on facetime to a luxury fashion exec, getting caught up on the latest news from Gucci, Burberry and Louis Vuitton? @BernardGarby’s fashion news series on TikTok has that exact energy– and catching up with his fashion updates has become a staple part of my morning routine. Whether he’s waking up in Paris, London or Milan – he gives us the latest insights into the fashion industry’s biggest dramas, business updates and exhilarating highs and lows. By the time he’s finished making his coffee, he has already caught us up on the Karl Lagerfeld-themed Met Gala, straight from New York, or the breakdown of Daniel Lee’s new role at Burberry– and what that means for the brand. This isn’t just a series for industry insiders either, he’s passionate about helping newcomers break into the fashion industry, and posts regularly about entry-level opportunities that require little to no experience. Whether you’re seeking a career in fashion or just want to hear about the latest big news in fashion, I would start tuning in to his updates – it’s a morning ritual like no other.

VISITING… Beyond the Streets London, on at the Saatchi Gallery until 9 May 2023
Highly-rated and in its final days at the Saatchi Gallery, if you haven’t had a chance to visit this exhibition yet, you only have two days left! Tickets here.

WEARING… Calvin Klein recycled clutch bag
My favourite accessory of late has been this little black bag. We all know you can’t go wrong with a shoulder bag – and we love to see brands using recycled materials. The versatility of this little black bag means it has become a staple in my collection recently.

GOING… to Experimental Perfume Club
There are many places one can feel overwhelmed: the office, large social gatherings, an intimate event with in-laws. But for me, there is only one that sends me into disarray — a perfume shop. Knowing this, I still managed to make my way to Covent Garden and into the Experimental Perfume Club, an experience that simultaneously forced me to face my fears and find new love. Filled with hundreds of glass bottles, stray pipets, breathtaking displays and starter kits for aspiring perfumers, it was evident from the off how the space achieved its namesake. As each scent encased within blended together in the open air, it was soon my turn to get behind the wheel — smelling multiple fragrances in different formulas until I finally had one that was all mine. Offering this experience to its customers daily, the Experimental Perfume Club is one of the first of its kind to tailor itself to its audience — creating beautiful blends that empower, inspire and pleasure any who come across it.

USING… Bourri Multipurpose Oil
As someone who checked their horoscope weekly, l will buy into anything that tailors to its customer’s personality type. But Bourri, my recently discovered new beauty brand, takes this form of product creation to a whole new level. Harnessing a spectrum of character traits as well as skin textures and types, Bourri creates three signature blends of their multi-purpose oil: grounding Vata, calming Pitta and energising Kapha. Whether they are used as a moisturiser, cleaner, or even a companion for a gua sha, each blend carries with it benefits that not only nourish and heal the skin but also the soul.

LISTENING… to Jim Legxacy
Lewisham producer, singer and rapper Jim Legxacy is a trailblazer in UK alternative music. Flaunting an incredible fluidity to his craft, he has recently released his latest body of work, homeless n*gga pop music, one of the most expressive, surprising and striking rap projects that you will hear this year. Often going from heart-rendering emotion to hard hitting barring in a matter of a breakdown, it’s romantic but robust, braggadocios yet introspective. This is the music of the future.

READING… The Philosophy Of Andy Warhol
I’d always been fascinated by the multi-dimensional legacy of Andy Warhol, an artist with a starkly disparate artistic ethos in comparison to many of his contemporaries. Intrigued to find out more, I delved into his part-manifesto, part-confessional, part-self-help book The Philosophy of Andy Warhol. Written as if an inconsistent diary, there is a lack of solidity to anything that Warhol has to say, but there is a beauty in the elusiveness of it. Whilst disagreeing with most things that he had to say (his materialism is borderline deranged), there are enough thoughtful musings and rigid opinions to get the creative and critical juices following.

LISTENING… to Rodríguez
I’ve always appreciated a bit of Rodríguez and his psychedelic folk rock music, but it wasn’t until I watched the Searching for Sugar Man documentary last Sunday that I feel in love. “Sugar Man” is my new London Underground anthem. Watch the film and listen to “Crucify Your Mind”, you won’t be disappointed.

WEARING… Oud
This spring I’m not feeling light, fruity and fresh with my fragrances. No, I’m feeling oud-y. I’m a perfume lover and a strong believer in layering your scents, catch me wearing three or more at a time… These days I’m layering Sana Jardin’s Celestial Patchouli with Frederic Malle’s Musc Ravageur. I’m also about to pull the trigger on some Ode à l’Oude by L’Artisan Parfumeur.

SEEING… Vivienne Westwood Corsets
I absolutely love when brands curate their own exhibits, and as a big admirer of Vivienne Westwood’s ability to draw from historical movements to drive contemporary societal change, this one has my whole heart. The boundary-pushing design house honours its namesake’s revolutionary re-imagination of corsetry through a new exhibit, Vivienne Westwood Corsets. Although corsets and similar styles are often seen in today’s designs, Westwood was among the first to turn historical underwear into contemporary outerwear. From as early as the 1980s, Vivienne reclaimed the 18th century garment — turning it from a restrictive patriarchal symbol to one of female empowerment and sexual freedom. The new exhibit highlights the corset’s connection to historical dress, culture, and fine art — and how such topics have inspired the Vivienne Westwood brand into the modern age. Vivienne Westwood Corsets is exhibited in the Vivienne Westwood London boutique, from 8 May to 21 May.

LISTENING… to Maude Latour — “I am not the sun”

Maude Latour has been releasing some of her most powerful and experimental music yet, and “I am not the sun” is her own personal favourite. The psychedelic alt-pop track is ethereal, captivating, otherworldly, and expansive — yet intimate, grounding, and comforting at the same time. Her layered vocals and beats fill all the senses in three and a half minutes of pure Maude goodness. It feels like finally letting go of everything that’s been holding you back, and flying without the weight. Listen on a warm day, volume all the way up. It’ll transcend you. With other recent singles “Lunch” and “Heaven”, Maude Latour is dominating all my playlists right now.
