MARSHALL VINCENT – BURN ON ARRIVAL

The Berlin-based alt pop star delivers his second EP, a body of work rich in its warmth and vibrance.

The more alternative sphere of pop has been outdoing itself in recent years, with supremely talented artists tricking out of every corner of the globe to bless our years with their unique artistic vision. One such name is Marshall Vincent; born in Chicago before relocating to the outlet of Berlin, the singer-songwriter has become a key figure in the queer and art scenes in the city that is well-known as an epicentre for forward-thinking creatives. In 2021, Vincent unveiled his debut EP, In No Particular Order, which embedded him into the alternative atmosphere and cemented his artistic direction.

We’ve now received it’s follow up, Burn On Arrival, which elevates the artists craft to the next level. The five-track sophomore project is slick and sensitive, with Vincent flaunting an endless emotional capacity and sharpness to his songwriting. Previous gently anthemic taster “Ring Ring” follows subtly cinematic opener “Ghosts”, with things then taken up a gear with standout, focus single “Grace”, which is an off kilter, engaging cut that takes Vincent closer to individuality than ever before. “Break a Heart” leans further into folk, with the singer-songwriter giving an ethereal take on an acoustic driven sound, whilst the closer, “Next To You” is otherworldly and sparse, Vincent’s textured vocals leading us towards a fulfilling and melancholic finish.

Eclectic but focused, pained by hopeful, this is a glorious body of work that leaves us asking when – not if – the wider industry start taking notice.
