Hailing from Rotterdam, Sophia Habib is a singer, songwriter and producer whose sonic steps leave a footprint. Delving between the generic characteristics of pop, R&B and Neo-soul, Habib’s approach is vibrant, silk-laden and intricate, illustrating a capability of keeping the listener drawn on her every syllable. Habib studied at Rotterdam Conservatory of Music, which helped her develop a sound full of identity and maturity that stands out from a flourishing yet congested scene.

The soulstress unveiled her debut album, Fragile, last year, which was a dazzling effort that flaunted a desire to experiment and to be modern in her style, whilst also paying homage to the sounds of the past. Following the LP’s release, we have now been blessed with two fresh live performance videos from Habib with “Lifeline” and “Thank You”. “Lifeline” is plucked from the recent album, with this stripped back edition a refreshing reinvention of the original, while “Thank You” is a wholly unheard offering.

Both tracks are accompanied by an orchestral backdrop courtesy of the Cloud Orchestra, highlighting Habib’s passion for classical music, commenting “To work with an orchestra was a dream I just had to fulfil. I called Anton de Bruin and asked if he wanted to do another collaboration with Cloud Orchestra. And that’s how it started!” The accompanying videos are directed by Elli Genrucg and Rebecca Weltner and filmed by Maric Dam, and shot in a gorgeous location that keeps it simple, with the music and Sophia’s performance driving the art forward in luxurious comfort .

Speaking on the tracks, Sophia add, “”Thank You” is very simply a love story! It’s thanking someone for showing you what true love is and that you are worthy of receiving that love.” “Lifeline” speaks of desperately wanting someone to love you, even though you know they’re no good for you, but ultimately realising that you don’t need the approval of anyone to be loved”.
