Seattle-based rockstar Ayron Jones spent the past few years achieving his dream and growing into the musician and person he has always strived to be. One of the first solo Black artists to hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Rock Chart with his song “Mercy”, Jones has since opened for The Rolling Stones and Daughtry. Between recording his new album and touring, he has found a new clarity within himself and doesn’t hold back from honesty and vulnerability.
Upcoming 10-track LP Chronicles of the Kid, out 23rd June, is all about telling a personal truth. Written as if an audio journal, it goes through all the stages of self-discovery, from wins to losses and the highs and lows of fame. With the announcement of his sophomore record, Jones released the first single from its track list.
“Blood in the Water” was born out of a need to heal his family’s generational trauma and prevent it from continuing down the line to future generations. It tells the story of taking an active role in one’s future, creating new stories, and transforming energy into something positive. “While I cannot choose the life I have been given, I can strive forward and choose to take control of the future — to break these curses now and forevermore.”
The rock anthem and its intimate, journalistic video highlight the resiliency and strength that coincides with hardship. “In my life, I’ve certainly felt the weight of the hurt my parents and their parents before them have had to endure. But therein lies the beautifully cruel irony. With that trauma comes the gift of resilience, the weight gives birth to incredible strength and a sense of fearlessness. Without having endured that pain, I wouldn’t have become who I am today. “Blood In The Water” is about the beauty of that dichotomy.”
