NEW NOISE: NATISA GOGOL

We speak to the Ukrainian singer-songwriter about her new single and her journey to create it.

Natisa Gogol has been on an incredible journey to reach the success that she has now achieved. An heartbreaking and endearing tale, Natisa, like so many others, had her life turned upside down by the breakout of war in Eastern Europe, with the artist being forced to flee her native Ukraine. Her musical career in the country was naturally upended, but she refused to let strife stop her from making music.

Alongside US-born, Prague-based songwriter, musician and producer Gregory Darling, Gogol has now devised the stunning single, “Wind Of Hope”. The singer-songwriter unleashes a tale of inspiration, solitude and belief on a cut that is immersive and powerful, with Gogol showcasing her captivating vocal nuance atop the poignant instrumental. A track that stands up as both a pop anthem and a message to her listeners, it’s no surprise to hear Natisa’s name on the lips of more and more music fans.

We spoke to the rising singer-songwriter about her musical origins, her inspirational journey, and the dazzling new single.

Who and what inspires your creativity?
Life itself. Loved ones. Love. Family.

How did you start making music?
Ever since I was a little girl, my father instilled in me a love for music. From then on there was not a day in my life without music. It may sound loud, but I think I was born for it.

Where does your passion for composing come from?
When my heart is full of emotion, I compose. When I feel good or when I feel bad the best expression of my state is writing songs, art and creativity is my salvation.

How would you define/describe your unique sound?
We are all unique. I like the timbre of my voice, it’s recognizable and memorable. But rather my listeners would better answer this question.

You have been through a lot in the last year, how has that affected the way you write?
Probably my music has become deeper and more meaningful. Now I understand exactly what I want and how I want to write, and most importantly I can convey it. The message and meanings, hidden and explicit, everything is important, every detail plays a role.

Do your experiences correlate with your need to create?
Probably yes. When I am going through strong emotions the desire to create is way stronger than when everything is relatively calm and quiet:)

Is creativity a spiracle for you?
100%. Unfortunately nothing in life is everlasting, but music is something that is with me always and everywhere under any circumstances. Life is a change. It’s a special privilege to be a part of something permanent and eternal.

Why do you want to tell your story, to bring it to the world?
Every story is unique and many stories are worth telling. My story is not an easy one and I am grateful for the opportunity to tell it to the world and be heard. It resonates with the stories of many people who were forced to leave their country because of the war, and I think everyone will find something unique in it. Perhaps some will be spurred to action, some will be motivated, and some will simply be given a ray of hope…

Your recent single “Wind of Hope” is a powerful track. Tell us, what does it feel like when your music goes out into the world?
It’s a feeling of gratitude to God and total happiness, a feeling of being part of a vast universal plan in which everyone is like a little puzzle, carrying their own special mission. Space has its own plans for us, the more people and countries hear my music, the greater the responsibility I feel. But this is the most pleasant and exciting thrill of the soul I have ever felt.

What inspired you to write this song?
My country, my people. Everyone should contribute what they can, what they can do. And I can do it that way, through my art.

What was the creative process like?
The creative process always brings me only the most positive emotions and pleasure. Even if sometimes there are controversial moments, it is always the birth of something new. It is delightful.

What do you want the listeners to get out of the track?
I would like so much for people to have more faith and hope in the future. That’s what my song is about.

Where do you want to direct your creativity?
Into people’s hearts.

What are your career goals?
To be heard and recognised around the world.

What do you think is next for you? What are your next steps?
At the moment the release of an album and a duet with a famous performer are in the nearest plans. About further plans I think you will know soon…
