ARCTIC LAKE – “ARE YOU OKAY”

The London-based duo unveil the message behind their latest track.

The explosive due behind Arctic Lake – vocalist Emma Foster and producer Paul Holliman – are no strangers to tackling taboo. Unleashing more of their psychedelic style into a contemplative story of mental health and the importance of human connection, the London-based duo unveil “Are You Okay?” Drenched in Foster’s angelic vocals and Holliman’s tentative instrumentals, the track begs its listeners to do just that: reach out and listen.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the track’s message, Foster explains, “We wrote ‘Are You Okay’ after our first trip to the U.S., where we had a whirlwind of sessions. I realised I had been so caught up in everything that I had completely checked out from the one person who meant the most to me. Today, we have all this technology connecting us and separating, all at once. Communicating should be easier than ever but when you’re busy, connection is sometimes the first thing to close down.”

Creating connection in a world that can lack it, “Are You Okay?” is just one example of the duo’s ability to invite healthy contemplation into their music — offering the audial equivalent of a warm embrace to those that need it most. Driving this home, the track comes equipped with a visualiser showcasing Foster in isolation — allowing herself to explore her own mind and reflect on what she is truly missing. As the melody gently fades away, we are left sure of one thing: the only thing we were missing was Arctic Lake.
