A classical trained pianist, IRENE is a complex and avant-garde artist who has been exploring musical and mental intricacies with searing effect. Having had her music picked up by major TV platforms like National Geographic and Walt Disney Company, the multi-talent has now continued to augment her reputation and artistry with thoughtful, provoking and emotionally potent alternative pop songs. Within the same sonic hemisphere as the likes of Björk and Kate Bush, there is a captivating vitality to the sound of IRENE, drawing the listener into her enchanting but emotive sonic universe.

IRENE has now returned for her first single of the year, the off-kilter yet groovy and deeply personal single “Gatekeeper”. Atop booming bass, percussion and hazy piano, IRENE brings a vocal gusto that is rare and striking, showcasing her rage, anguish and passion. There is various levels to the track’s lyricism, with IRENE offering a widely relatable yet intimately individual concepts. Bravely confronting past trauma, whilst offering a comment on the musical industry on a wider level, there is a delicate grace and heart-rending emotion through the writing and performance of “Gatekeeper”.

Commenting on the single, IRENE adds, “For ten years I played your game. You were the gatekeeper, holding the keys to my piano – and I played your good girl. But your secret is not safe with me anymore. So, here you go, Gatekeeper, keep the shame. It’s all yours.”
