Pop is a genre that is becoming increasingly avant garde; one of the many flourishing examples of this is the Paris-born artist Aime Simone. Simone released their debut album, Say Yes, Say No. recorded in Berlin back in 2020, to huge public and critical acclaim. His sound, self-defined as “post pop”, is an intriguing combination of natural and electronic sounds, with his wide ranging influences clear, but also an evident eye for forward thinking writing and production techniques.

Simone has now returned for his first song of the year, “Baby Don’t Quit”. The new single is a charming alternative pop cut that borrows from an eclectic range of styles to pinpoint a sound that is warmly relatable yet fiercely distinct. Blending the smooth tone of his Fender Stratocaster with a skippy trap percussive backdrop courtesy of the Roland TR-808, there is a indie-tinged defiance to the song. These striking undertones are backed by the encapsulating vocals of Simone, who serenades the nuanced instrumental, accentuating its individuality with a captivating performance atop of it. It’s a rousing effort that carries a message of positivity and prosperity.

Discussing the track, Simone offers, “This song is about not giving up, not letting yourself down no matter how long it takes, believing in the vision, seeing it vividly and saving the world and yourself on the way.”

With plenty more music on the way this year, make sure to jump on the Aime Simone bandwagon before it carts off!
