French born, now Amsterdam based, Awir Leon is a singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and dancer who has been grabbing the attention of fans of avant-garde music for quite some time. Sculpting himself a sound that flirts with the sensibilities of electronica, alternative rap and indie, there is immersive sonic and emotional depth to Awir Leon’s work, often finding himself likened to James Blake, Thom Yorke and Frank Ocean amongst others. A decade deep into his career, Leon has amassed over a million streams on Spotify, with a diverse plethora of releases building his eclectic and impressive discography.
His third outing of the year, “A Million Other Days” is a delicate and divine glimpse into the subtle side of Leon’s artistry. The layered, autotune vocals are searching and soaring, with the singer crooning his way across the cinematic soundscape. There’s a translucent allure to the beat; hypnotic and layered, it’s the perfect foundation for Awir Leon to produce some of his strongest songwriting to date. Accompanying the dazzling audio is a short dance solo, choreographed by Amala Dianor. Dianor and Leon have worked together many times, with the artist composing the soundtrack to almost all of Dianor’s pieces throughout the last ten years, and the fruitful collaboration has proceeded itself here.
Speaking on the new single, Awir Leon comments, “A Million Other Days is probably my most honest song, the kind of song you almost don’t want to release because it’s too intimate. When it’s out it’s definitely gonna feel like I’m naked in the streets. But I think it’s good, we all have these moments of extreme emotion, extreme sadness, regrets and hopes in the same burst, that’s what this song is. It was also written and recorded this way, one take, no overdub, no edits, it’s a pure burst”.
