Although now based in London, REYA has been on an incredible journey to reach this. Of Chilean heritage, the singer was originally from Norway but then grew up in Spain, before ending up in the English capital. These diverse roots have played an essential part in her musical progression and maintain significance in the very essence and core of her sound. REYA recently made the monumental decision to change her artist name, reclaiming her musical identity in the process, and has now released the first single under the new alias, “attention”.

Given the above, the subject matter of REYA’s new single is remarkably resonant. The writer narrates us through a journey of self acceptance, self-ownership, and being unafraid to be yourself. She explains that whilst sometimes it may feel like by identifying as authentically you, it may make others uncomfortable, that is fine and you have to accept as much. The lyrical sentiment is matched by stunning vocals and a colourful instrumental palette. Gorgeous vocals serenade the swirling instrumental that compliments the dazzling tones of REYA. Commenting on the single, REYA comments, “My way of fighting back is fighting for myself. This new music is closer to what I would consider my roots, my influences and what I wish to speak out into the world. To me it represents power. The power to stand up for myself and what I feel is right. To stand against people, especially men, who choose to ruin careers whenever they feel threatened”.
