PREMIERE: JAMIE COOKE – “NO RETURN”

Wielding a melting pot of influences, the British artist debuts his new single.

Artist Jamie Cooke is dominating the London music scene, a far cry from the small town he grew up in – just outside of Watford. Soaking up the creativity he was surrounded by, Cooke has been cultivating his artistic prowess from a young age. Whether it be singing or dancing, he was always bursting with creativity at the seams; moving to London was the catalyst for Cooke’s artistry to take flight. Inspired by the likes of Amy Winehouse, Frank Ocean, and Tom Misch – he began to embark on a musical journey.

His latest output, “No Return”, is riddled with notions of self-love. Fuelled by the spirit of choosing yourself over anyone else, Cooke comes to the mature conclusion that nobody is worth sacrificing your mental peace. Muted pianos introduce the track, while Cooke’s lilt floats overtop. Ethereal instrumentals simmer, with tentative synths eventually build into a crescendo. A saxophone melds with bright keys, all in all driving home Cooke’s point of self-reverence.

Dreaming up an unparalleled sound, which is searingly soulful, Cooke is doing the damn thing. Only two years on into his music career, it’s safe to say we’re impressed. So much so, that we’re eagerly awaiting what he puts out next.
