PREMIERE: WOZ – “MEDICINE”

The nascent Alt musician unleashes new single ahead of sophomore EP.

Music runs through Woz’s veins, quite literally, as he’s the son of John Wozniak – the lead singer of the ‘90s band Marcy Playground. Although Woz carries the thread of his father’s career, his multi-instrumental abilities prove that the artist can stand on his own two feet. Although music isn’t quite Woz’s full time occupation – his graveyard shifts at Gulf Oil pumping petrol fuel his ultimate dream of music.

Working through hard-hitting facts of life such as familial relationships, childhood trauma, and sleep-inducing suburbia – listeners across the globe resonate with Woz’s searing intimacy. Drawing inspiration from a wealth of influences, from classic, and alt, to hard rock – Woz melds together the past to offer up the future.

Thinking back to how the song came to be, Woz notes: “A while back I was so disillusioned with my family, life, and everything, that I started going insane. I was so strung out on drugs and alcohol, my friends barely recognized who I turned into, and were terrified of my behavior, and it took everything I had to drag myself out of that place. I wrote the guitar riff on my manager’s couch, and kept it for the studio. It went through different lyrical stages, but we ended up pulling from the darkest time of my life.”
