LGN AUTUMN/WINTER 2023

The label headed by Louis-Gabriel Nouchi unleashes an American Psycho-inspired Men’s collection.

Debuting in 2017, the Parisian label LGN has carved out a solid space for itself in the fashion industry. Melding together a host of aesthetics – from classic tailoring, sportswear, counter-culture – and beyond, what results is a uniquely daring output. Founder Louis-Gabriel Nouchi has always harboured a love of reading, and his label reflects that – as each collection pays homage to a novel or writer who has made serious waves.

LGN has been the force making waves this week, with an American Psycho-inspired Men’s Autumn/Winter 2023 collection. Patrick Bateman is many things, but he isn’t badly dressed; LGN had an elevated starting point to jump off of. Traversing a colour palette of black, white, blood red, and city banker blue – the collection toes the line between seduction and danger. Red also bleeds onto the other garments, as splashes of blood are left on them – and across the models’ faces in an echo of violence.

The seductive/dangerous dichotomy is evidenced abundantly by the cutouts in the collection. Recalling gashes, or lacerations – these cut outs could be the result of a knife crime, but they could also be a sensual attempt to call attention to the skin. With dévoré jersey print fabric a victim to the crime, material was also shaped in the form of draping. Jersey tops and dresses call to mind evening gowns, as much as they do the cellophane that Patrick Bateman wraps his victims in.

Leather is the cherry on top of the collection, furthering the Bateman-inspired agenda by joining forces with Ecco Leather. Crafting up a transparent ‘murder’ coat, axes and chainsaws are also covered in repurposed leather. Taking them out of the context of violence, they now serve as handbags.

LGN’s latest collection is a shining example of when fashion intersects with the Arts. Providing a wealth of inspiration, and allowing for people to instantly connect with the clothes – LGN know exactly what they’re doing.
