This year, across all industries, shining stars have started to emerge. Whether artists are switching up the music game, becoming our go-to TikTok accounts, or providing us with some envy-worthy fashion pieces, 2022 has seen it all. As such, we’ve decided to compile a definitive list of those mavericks who you ought to keep your eye on in 2023.

Head below to see our picks…

Niclas Skovgaard

Starting off with fashion, Copenhagen is emerging as one of fashion’s newest capitals – and for very good reason. Newcomers like Niclas Skovgaard are switching up the game, providing us with insanely crafted, gorgeous garments. Taking a look through Skovgaard’s roster you’ll find bold silhouettes, hand-woven dresses, hats, ruching, and more. Drawing inspiration from the decadent baroque period, Skovgaard’s pieces feel vintage yet inventive all at once; we can’t wait to see what else Skovgaard dreams up.

Paloma Wool

This Barcelona-hailing knitwear brand has been absolutely killing it since its debut a few years ago. Aside from treating customers to a dazzling array of knits, jumpers, dresses, and coats – the devil is in the details. Take their dainty knitted hair bows, a Paloma Wool-ified take on the ribbon renaissance that’s been happening. Not to mention, their gorgeous campaign imagery. Whether they’re snapshots of models mid-sleep, or models mid-action – their way of conceptualising themselves has a way of sticking with you. We’re very here for it!

Urte Kat

Another independent brand on our radar is Urte Kat. Headed by designer Urte Katiliute, who paid her dues at Central Saint Martins, returned to her native Lithuania to bring us her brand. Urte Kat’s most recent pieces seem to play into the same phenomenon that has Miu Miu’s latest collections shaking everyone to the core. It’s this idea of deconstructing a uniform, toying with the idea of formality, and offering up a playful, fresh alternative. Whether they’re reconstructed shirts, cut-out trousers, or captivating crochet pieces – Urte Kat is pulling it out the bag.

Dinamarca

In the music realm, the Swedish-Chilean producer, DJ, and force to be reckoned with, Dinamarca, is set for great heights. There’s kind of a ‘Reggaeton revolution’ happening in music right now, where the sound of Reggaeton and Perreo is being revolutionised. Whether it’s women such as Isabella Lovestory or Arca coming to the forefront, we’re also hearing a lot softer, more melancholic variations of the genre. Dinamarca’s sound is distinctly Latin, yet entrancingly trance – and when he links up with other powerhouses like Eartheater and La Favi, magic is made. Hot off the heels of volume two of his Fantasilandia album, we’re sure there’s plenty in store for Dinamarca in 2023.

Tyla

Tyla’s unique blend of ethereal pop with Ampiano has already racked up some serious critical acclaim. Her breakout hit, “Getting Late”, took TikTok by storm – going on to garner over 5.5 million views on YouTube. Reminiscent of the honey-like lilts of Aaliyah and Cassie, Tyla’s dance-heavy tracks are bringing the fresh spin to the music industry that we didn’t know we needed. Currently working with Beyonce’s producer Tricky Stewart on her upcoming album, we’re sure that 2023 will be the year Tyla breaks into the mainstream.

Ayra Starr

With a feature on Stormzy’s latest album to round off a blazing 2022, newcomer Ayra Starr is without a doubt one to watch. Vulnerable and unapologetic, the young artist’s singer-songwriting talents have garnered her hundreds of millions of streams on both Spotify and YouTube. With additional nods of respect from BBC Radio 1, Capital Xtra and Kiss (to name a few), 2023 is set to fan the flames. Having made her UK performing debut at Wireless Festival as a supporting act for Cardi B, we can’t wait to see what else the young artist has to offer.

Erika Kamano

Photography-wise, one swipe through Erika Kamano’s feed, and she leads you by the hand into the spellbinding world of girlhood. Her photos have a certain intimacy which is irresistibly captivating, and there’s an element of voyeurism which makes you feel like you’re peeking at something you shouldn’t be. Her high contrast and sultry toned images have been lent to the likes of Givenchy, Tank Air Studio, and even our Winter 22/23 imagery with Jesse Jo Stark. A pure feast for the eyes, we can only hope that we’ll be treated to even more of Kamano’s photography in the year to come.

Devin Halbal

Over on TikTok Devin Halbal, aka Hal.Baddie, has emerged as the shining star of the app this year. Gracing us with iconic phrases such as “Doll check in!” and “Met Gala behaviour!”, Halbal’s sweet disposition is incredibly infectious. Often toting a selfie stick in one hand, Halbal spreads positivity on TikTok with her daily affirmations – and with over 600k followers on the platform, she’s landed IRL campaigns and magazine spreads. A beacon of inspiration for the transgender community, no one’s doing it like Hal.Baddie! With an already impressive roster of collaborations under her belt, there’s no telling what 2023 has in store.
