OPPENHEIMER

The first trailer has dropped for Christopher Nolan’s newest IMAX venture starring Cilian Murphy.

Momentum has been building for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film Oppenheimer, and the release of its first trailer is adding more fuel to the fire. Based on the critically acclaimed book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the film paints a portrait of him – delving into the man that he was. Having led The Manhattan Project, from which the nuclear bomb was first developed, the film explores hard-hitting themes of morality and mortality.

With Cilian Murphy assuming the titular role, an array of shining stars feature alongside him in the cast. Playing his wife, ‘Kitty’ Oppenheimer, is none other than Emily Blunt; the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Kenneth Brannagh, Ben Affleck, Alex Wolff, Benny Safdie, and Florence Pugh also make appearances. With such a star-studded cast, Oppenheimer is set to be a triumph of epic proportions.

The trailer is atmospheric, and tension is built. Almost molecular close ups, and faraway long shots are interspersed with Murphy’s careful, considered acting chops. Terror bubbles under the surface of his face, while a monologue of his muses overtop, “We imagine a future, and our imaginings horrify us. They won’t fear it, until they understand it, and they won’t understand it until they’ve used it. Theory will only take you so far.” With such a compelling story, and conflicted emotional landscape on display for all to see – we’re waiting with anticipation until is release in July 2023.
