GUCCI – APRèS-SKI

A wintry endeavour, the fashion house unveils a powder-fresh Après-Ski capsule collection.

Après-Ski is an entire culture in and of itself. After hitting the slopes, skiers are subsumed into a spellbinding world of music, entertainment, and most importantly – fashion. Taking inspiration from the laissez-faire air of a winter getaway, this new collection offers up an expansion of Gucci’s house codes – while pushing the envelope, nonetheless.

This new Après-Ski collection poses a juxtaposition – toeing the line between the sporty, refined aesthetics typically seen off-piste, while looking towards a kitschier, more playful future. Featuring updated iterations of Gucci’s signature handbag pieces such as the Gucci Horsebit 1955, Gucci Diana, and GG Marmont, the line also evolves the ski mask silhouettes seen in Gucci Eyewear, amongst others. This new collection also gives a glimpse into the next chapter of the Adidas x Gucci collaboration, featuring a melding of the two powerhouses on a sumptuous range of jumpers, puffers, and bags.

Constantly redefining luxury, and heralding Italian craftsmanship, Gucci’s new capsule draws inspiration from skiwear and snow staples – unveiling a range of coordinated sets, knitwear, and puffer jackets. The label’s classic handbag shapes are developed upon – imbued with a houndstooth knit, trimmed with wool, or plastered with the instantly-recognisable Adidas x Gucci emblem. For the feet, the collection’s assortment takes inspiration from traditional hiking and snow boots, coming in a fleece-lined wool, GG Matelassé leather, or with an all-encompassing monogram motif. The accessories are just as thought out as the clothes – with mittens, hats, and ski masks offered up in shimmering and iridescent colourways.

Transcending the typical notion of ready-to-wear, Gucci’s Après-Ski collection also features accessories crafted up in collaboration with the Italian luxury luggage label FPM Milano, of which aluminium hard-sided trolleys and leather duffle bags continue the thread of the house’s Valigeria travel narrative.

Lensed by Mark Peckmezian, the campaign images have life breathed into them through a sparkling film by Akinola Davies Jr. The sweeping camera work follows the models as they embark on an alpine escape. Set against the backdrop of picture-perfect peaks and charming retro chalets, Celine Lomez’s 1971 hit “Après Ski” twinkles in the background. Cosy, comfy, and snug – the accompanying campaign visuals bring the collection’s charming flair to the surface.
