PREMIERE: ISIS SALAM – “BILLS N TINGS”

The Nigerian-born, Berlin-based multi-hyphenate debuts a searing new single.

Isis Salam’s natural habitat is the spotlight. The multi-faceted creative – rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ has a knack for bringing boundless amounts of energy to the stage. Revered by fans and peers alike, Salam’s integrity and versatility sets her apart from the rest.

This multi-hypenate artist is a globetrotter. Born in Nigeria, but flitting between New York and London – finally deciding to settle down in Berlin, Salam’s worldly quality lends a sophisticated edge to her sound. Burgeoning from the underground scene, she’s been on the rise ever since her debut in 2008. Salam kicked her career off as a crucial element to the acclaimed electro-rap duo Thunderheist, to which she brought a singular and radical sound – infusing the electronic scene with a much needed refresher. Notching collaborations with the likes of Pharell, Tyree Cooper, and Kody onto Thunderheist’s belt – Salam’s soulful vocal performances have long destined her for greatness.

The next chapter of Salam’s career has now put her in the pilot seat, as she has self-produced, mixed, and engineered a number of tracks on her hotly-anticipated upcoming EP 4U MY DEAR IN LUE OF FLOWERS. Finding herself at the heart of Berlin’s underground scene, Salam has made her mark on the city’s infamous techno scene. Morphing sexified nu-disco into a full-blown dance party, Salam harbours a burning talent for getting a crowd moving.

Salam’s latest offering is the blazing new track “Bills N Tings”. In this single the artist once again proves the power of her pipes, as well as her versatile, playful sound. Bubbling synths surface as the artist’s voice builds into a triumph. The lyrics “We gon’ get that good life” play on a loop, in a meditative, almost trance-like manner – addictive, yet enticing all the same.

Released ahead of her debut solo EP, Salam has enlisted the help of legendary house producers Tyree Cooper and Kelvin Scholar – who’s also lent his production skills to the likes of Stevie Wonder. Just casual. Blending the sounds of deep house bass lines, jazz and hip-shaking disco grooves – her new EP is poised to crash onto the music industry’s radar. Enlightening the world to her formidable talent, if “Bills N Tings” is anything to go by – we can’t wait to see what else she pulls out of the bag.
