Catching the attention of Drake and Jay-Z, Fridayy is making waves with his debut album.

Bursting onto the scene this summer, Fridayy featured on the sensational producer DJ Khaled’s track “GOD DID” along with musical icons Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and John Legend. No biggie! Signing up to the illustrious Def Jam Records – tSigning to the illustrious Def Jam Records: his debut EP Lost in Melody.

With roots in Haiti, but born in America, the young artist has always had a knack for playing a multitude of instruments – piano, guitar, drums, the trumpet, and the bass – all spurred on by the encouragement of his musician father. Traversing between singing, songwriting, and producing, Fridayy has blown the industry out of the water with his distinct vocals, which piqued the interest of icon Timbaland – who began to share the artist’s gift with the world.

Throughout Lost In Melody, Fridayy meanders between his many talents – In tracks like the opening “Blessings”, lyrics flow over melancholic beats, while synths stab. Others like “Come Through” are more upbeat, where the artist’s voice carries a commanding cadence. Showing off his range, Lost In Melody is the perfect beginning.

Fridayy is fresh on the scene, yet he’s already lending his production, singing, and songwriting kicks to the likes of DJ Khaled, Lil Baby, and Meek Mill, to name a few. With such a blazing start, we can’t even fathom where he’ll be headed. But if Lost In Melody is anything to go by, Fridayy is destined for (even more) greatness. Luckily for us, we got to sit down with the young artist to talk all things music, signing a record deal, and meeting his idols.

Hey Fridayy! How are you doing? If you could sum up your vibe today in one sentence, what would it be?

I’m doing well, it’s been a very chill day. I’m getting ready to go to the studio and see what comes to mind!

Congratulations on recently partnering with Def Jam Records! How does it feel to be attached to such an iconic label?

It feels great to even be recognized by them. There’s a lot of legends that got their start from over there, and I feel like I’m the new generation coming in to make my mark!

We love your name – our favourite day of the week! How did you come up with it?

It was inspired by my two favorite artists at the time, PARTYNEXTDOOR and The Weeknd. As a kid growing up, I always wanted to be a part of OVO and sign with Drake so I thought that Fridayy would fit perfectly on the label. The name started to stick with my family and friends over the years so I kept it!

As a Philadelphian-hailing artist, how did you find your origins influenced the artist you’ve become?

Philly is a city that birthed a lot of great artists from Meek Mill to Boyz II Men. They’ve all influenced the way that I look at music.

Congratulations also on all the success you’ve received this year with “God Did”! How did you and DJ Khaled first get in touch?

In the beginning I had been watching Khaled on IG quoting the saying “GOD DID” a lot so me, my manager, and A&R thought it was a good idea to try and send a song to him with that message. The song originally started with me, and there was nobody else on it. Khaled first told me that it was really supposed to be an interlude with just me singing. But then one day Khaled called and said he was gonna make it legendary, that’s when he threw all the rappers on.

Tell us about the craziest experience that has happened since “GOD DID”’s release!

Craziest part was finding out that Jay Z was going to be on the track, I mean he’s a legend that everyone wants to do a song with – from that moment I knew my life would change!

We love your EP “Lost In Melody”! How does it feel now that the release is out to the public?

It feels amazing that people finally get to have a body of work from me, and they can get an insight of who I am through the music. It’s just amazing to see people everywhere connect with my songs and feel like I’m giving them hope or inspiration.

You’re also featured on Lil Baby’s album! Tell us about the process of collaborating with him for the track?

The track was originally just me and Vory in the beginning. Vory posted it on his instagram and Lil Baby heard it and wanted the track, and that’s how it all came to be.
