The European Talent Exchange programme, first launched in 2003, has been integral to shaping the careers of some of the music industry’s brightest stars. From the likes of Stormzy, Years & Years, Dua Lipa, and James Blake – there’s no denying that this programme has propelled the careers of nascent artists to great heights. The aim of the game is to facilitate the bookings of European acts with festivals outside of their home countries, drumming up media attention for them in the process.

Coming to a festival near you, we’d like to shine a light on three of our picks who particularly stand out in this year’s list. From raging rock to silky R&B: Priya Ragu, Yard Act, and Flohio are this year’s ones to watch.

Head below to continue reading…

Priya Ragu

The blazing young talent Priya Ragu is shaping up to be a shining star within the music scene. Her Tamil heritage infuses her music with a distinct, unparalleled sound – weaving together R&B and electric beats to craft up a unique sonic tapestry. Her latest offering, “Illuminous”, plays off of the foundation that was already laid by her debut mixtape “damnshestamil”, once again linking up with longtime collaborator Japhna Gold. A booming bass underpins her commanding cadence, while stabbing synths propell the song into a pure banger. Priya Ragu is a true star.

Yard Act

Hailing from Leeds, the band Yard Act is pure Rock and Roll. Having wrapped up their first US tour a couple of months ago, Yard Act have successfully broken into the States – and they’re set for great heights. Their debut album The Overload was nominated for a Mercury Prize – no biggie! Post-punk, political, and provocative – their first LP is a searing triumph. Headed for a Spring 2023 tour, where they’ll blaze their way through Europe – there’s no sign of Yard Act slowing down anytime soon.

Flohio

Finishing off with fire, our final ‘one to watch’ is Flohio. A gem amidst the UK hip-hop scene, Flohio melds together unconventional beats, and electric-hot melodies while laying her domineering flow overtop. Her latest project, Out Of Heart, is fresh on the ears – offering up an entirely distinctive sound within the UK’s hip-hop-scape. Nigerian born, but British-raised – ‘Naija no dey carry last’ when it comes to Flohio.
