Joyce Muniz is emerging as one of Berlin’s shining new talents. Both a producer and a vocalist, this new release comes ahead of her new album Zeitkapsel, to be released in April 2023. Interestingly enough, “In Der Nacht” was actually the last track that was written for the release, but we’re glad that it’s the first one the talent decided to share.

Pulsating, electric, vibrant – these are all words that describe Muniz’s triumphant new release. Toeing the line between 80s new wave and ‘00 nu rave – Muniz grounds the effervescent soundscapes with surreal, hypnagogic lyrics – drawing parallels between dreams and reality. Crafted up amidst lockdown, Zeitkapsel came to Muniz when she was reflecting on her body of work and career as a whole.

Translated in English as “In the night”, “In Der Nacht” sprung upon Muniz spontaneously. Arising from an improvised session, Muniz consulted a friend – who suggested the cherry on top – a rapper. Fuelled by prosecco, DJ, designer, and queer activist Karl Michael laid down some heavy bars – and what results is a stream of consciousness flow of hazy, playful edginess.

Accompanied by an equally ethereal music video, lensed by Noah Rosa, the visuals are a punch-drunk hole of glamorous debauchery. If “In Der Nacht” is anything to go by, then Muniz’s sophomore album is shaping up to be a stellar release.
