Here at Wonderland, we simply can’t resist an awards ceremony. The glitz, the glamour, the gowns – it all just gives us life! Thankfully, we were fed last night by the 2022 MOBO awards. An acronym for ‘Music of Black Origin’, some of the UK’s best and brightest talent were in attendance – it was Black Excellence if we’ve ever seen it! Fan faves such as Nia Archives and PinkPantheress snapped up awards, while Love Island’s sweetheart Indiyah made her presenting debut. Not to mention, we were treated to a slew of dazzling dresses and stunning suits; we simply must divulge the details of the event’s standout moments.

Head below to take a look…

PinkPantheress ushered in the UK Garage renaissance, and since then the music landscape hasn’t been the same. Blessing us with hits like “Pain” and “Break It Off”, it comes as no surprise that the young artist snapped up the prize for Best Female Act. Her addictive beats and soft-spoken vocals have won the hearts of fans all across the globe, and we’re tickled pink to see that she got her flowers.

Little Simz & Knucks tied for 1st place

For the first ever time in MOBO history, two acts were awarded with the coveted Best Album prize. Little Simz was given accolades for Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, showcasing her commanding flow and spellbinding soundscapes. The young talent tied with rapper Knucks, who was honoured for his critically acclaimed jazz-rap debut, Alpha Place. An unprecedented event, both artists shared the stage; two heads are better than one!

Nia Archives is electric

Nia Archives came onto the scene wielding the decks to propel her into the future. A shining star within the UK electronic scene, Archives is a pro at dreaming up addictive Jungle breakbeats that leave fans hungry for more. Her debut EP, “Heads Gone West” made some serious waves; she followed it up with the soaring single “Forbidden Feelingz”. In a sonic style she calls the “future classic”, it made Archives the perfect recipient for the Best Dance/Electronic Act – and we couldn’t be happier.

Jamal Edwards was posthumously awarded

Entrepreneurial trailblazer, Jamal Edwards, sadly passed away earlier this year. Revered for putting the likes of Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, and Stormzy on the map through his online music platform SBTV – the echoes of his influence still reverberate to this day. Winning the aptly titled Paving The Way Award, the UK music scene simply wouldn’t be what it is if it weren’t for Edwards. Respect.

Indiyah was the gift that kept on giving

Love Island’s Indiyah quickly emerged from the show as a fan favourite. Her bubbly personality, as well as her iconic one-liners like “May the best heartbreaker win”, put her on the map as one to watch. As a slew of personalities get out of the island and into the real world, it’s not exactly an easy feat to maintain relevancy; Indiyah made the impossible possible. Looking like a prize herself, Indiyah wore a stunningly sculptural black gown to present the award for Best Grime Act. A true bombshell.

Model, entrepreneur, and rockstar’s girlfriend rolled all into one – is there anything that Leomie Anderson can’t do? This beauty never fails to turn out some stunning red carpet looks, and her fit for the MOBO awards was a sight to behold. In all black leather, Anderson donned a sleek two piece. It was giving ‘motomami’ – sleek, sexy, biker-chic. Complete with deep cut-outs at the hips, this look was simply to die for.
