WHEN YOU FINISH SAVING THE WORLD

Finn Wolfhard joins Julianne Moore and Alisha Boe in a new A24 film directed by Jesse Eisenberg.

The cult favourite indie studio, A24, has just unleashed a new trailer for When You Finish Saving The World. Star-studded, and emotionally tinged – this trailer has definitely piqued our interest. While there isn’t a whole lot out about the film, we’re happy to divulge the details of everything we know so far.

Head below to see…

Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard play mother and son

From what we can gather from the snippet we’ve been treated to, the ‘Stranger Things’ star assumes a remarkably different role to his demagorgon-fearing counterpart. In a much more pared down and intimate role, Wolfhard plays “Ziggy” – a fairly normal teen. That said, his character has an online following of over 20,000, to which he livestreams “classic folk rock with alternative influences.” Ricocheting off of Ziggy is his mother, “Evelyn”, played by Julianne Moore. Reminiscent of the love/hate mother-daughter pairing in Lady Bird, throughout the trailer we see Ziggy and Evelyn butt heads; there’s no doubt a big blow up simmering under the surface.

Alisha Boe (of ‘13 Reasons Why’) is the love interest

Much beloved for her role as Jessica Davis in ‘13 Reasons Why’, Alisha Boe takes on a new role as “Lila”, Ziggy’s love interest. Through Ziggy’s eyes, we see the teen become enthralled by her – even going as far as to mindlessly agree with her political takes. In typical adolescent fashion, an infatuation ensues – although we’re not quite sure where their relationship is headed. We can’t say for sure, but if this coming of age story is anything like our teen years, things probably won’t go as planned.

It’s Jesse Eisenberg’s directorial debut

One of the biggest pieces of news to emerge from this release is that it’s actor Jesse Eisenberg’s directorial debut. Famed for being in front of the camera, in stellar productions such as The Social Network and Now You See Me, the American actor is finally in the director’s chair. That said, Eisenberg is no stranger to penning productions, as he’s written a slew of plays and prose fiction. The idea for When You Finish Saving The World, however, demanded more space to be explored – it called for dreaming up a fully-fledged film.

When You Finish Saving The World debuted to a chorus of praise at last year’s Sundance Festival, and with set releases at select theatres across the US, it seems like more fuel is being added to the fire. We certainly can’t resist the heady, dizzying feelings that coming of age stories tend to bring up – and this new A24 film is sure to provide.
