When things seem a little cloudy, the sun-soaked spirit of Mexico seems an inviting alternative to London’s grey skies. Providing the antidote to your winter blues, The Sometimes Island and Tribbs have teamed up for a remix of the duo’s 2022 hit, “Acapulco”.

Exploring a dose of all-encompassing escapism set to energy-inducing club beats, The Sometimes Island’s track is a tribute to a new chapter, the remix brimming with earworm vocals and reverting beats that wouldn’t sound out of place on the sun-soaked beaches of Mexico. Comprised of frontman Mattt Blankenship Jr and drummer Nick Lopiano, The Sometimes Island, is the synth-based duo behind the hit, however, in a fresh endeavour, the pair have been joined by Poland’s No.1 streaming DJ, Tribbs. Previously known for his single “Ghost” and runaway hit “Duze Oczy”, the nascent artist puts a playful, club-ready spin on The Sometimes Island’s standout single, citing the likes of Van Zandy and Deadmau5 as his inspiration.

Describing the track, Tribbs reflects on “the listless ennui” he felt while in Los Angeles, taking to producing to tackle his discontentment and framing his frustration through the narrative of “an ignored lover reaching their breaking point, leaving and abruptly buying a plane ticket.” Echoing this story, the accompanying music video mirrors this sentiment, painting a colourful picture of the end of a relationship and the inevitable party phase and feeling of freedom that follows

Following a prestigious deal with Sony, “Acapulco” is the first remix from Tribbs with new backing, with The Sometimes Island full of praise for their co-collaborator. Reflecting on the experience, the pairing adds “We’re excited to debut our initial major label release along with him. We love the remix, and it’s been amazing to see our song go from small beginnings – recording it in a rental house in La Jolla – to releasing it to a global audience. “Acapulco” was our very first of now several songs to get into millions of plays on Spotify, and the remix is our introduction to the world and the start of something really special.”
