Channelling an inexplicable energy, “Planet of Soul” is the latest beautifully crafted track from the electronic pop group. Starting his music career in the ‘90s, Patrick Wright was the initial instigator of the group, later joined by John Griffin, the duo joining forces to create Ichinchilla’s debut album “Zulu Landing”. After a hiatus, the pair are back. Citing David Bowie and Jamie X as influences, Ichinchilla pairs a reverberating baseline with easy-listening vocals. “Planet Of Soul” blends seamlessly for a swirling, melodic track that’ll transport you into a parallel universe and beyond, the robotic vocals providing a mechanical commentary alongside the laid-back beats.

Described by the Wright as “a paean to liberty with a subtle longing for a simpler existence”, the track explores a yearning for “a better planet, a kinder planet.” With an undeniably otherworldly feel, it’s no surprise Ichinchilla looked to outer space for inspection, describing how the track is written from the perspective of being in space, looking back at the earth and reflecting on “a planet in turmoil”. With repeated lyrics and mellow notes, the track creates a sort of mantra for a better world, lamenting the damage we’ve caused and hoping for a better future. Reflecting on the tack, Ichinchilla aka Patrick Wright, adds “Ultimately, it’s dance music with a message embedded rather than just a catchphrase.”
