Australian rising star Madison did not come to play with this new single. Her voice is a feat in itself, embodying the sheer fortitude of the vocally blessed Adele, while simultaneously offering up a vulnerable insight into the artist’s emotional landscape. Having started off with humble beginnings, working from a makeshift home studio – Madison was soon propelled to greater heights, meeting up with fellow creatives across London, LA, and Amsterdam (to name a few). With this newfound lust for life, the young artist was able to cultivate an unparalleled sound; “Nightshade” is just that.
The cinematic single draws the listener in with Madison’s commanding vocals, and demands attention with its skillful piano. Pop sensibilities are then sprinkled into the mix, along with evocative synths, while kick drums punch through, and ground the energy. All of that in tandem results in a track that we can’t stop hitting replay on. And, the visceral message behind it hits close to home, “(It’s) about being played, & explores the emotional aftermath you go through in realizing the kind of toxic person you exposed your heart to. We’re working through the feels and turning it into liberation.”
Suffice to say, we’ve all been there. No doubt, this kind of emotional vulnerability is a diamond in the rough of the overly-curated, happy-go-lucky, online personas we’re so used to these days. Madison may be fresh on the scene, but if she carries on at this rate – she’s set for major greatness.
