Last night’s hotly-anticipated awards ceremony was simply a sight to behold – here are our highlights.
Awards ceremonies are the pinnacle of the glitz and glam that we’ve come to love our fave celebs for. Held in Dusseldorf, Germany – fans across the globe were intently following the MTV EMA’s like a football match, and everyone put in their own bets. The likes of Harry Styles and Taylor Swift dominated nominations – each garnering the most nods in their respective fields. But, who actually swept all the awards is a different story – and we’ve got it all covered.
Head below to see our highlights from last night’s hotly anticipated event…
T-Swift and Stormzy are the duo we didn’t know we needed
This is our multiverse of madness! The two trailblazing artists joined forces for this iconic selfie, and it’s all anyone can talk about. Swift had the glow of being the most awarded artist at the event, while Stormzy was still buzzing from his sensational performance of “Firebabe” with rising artist Debbie. Stormzy’s fans were treated to a behind-the-scenes of this explosive selfie, as he documented in detail his quest to find the musical superstar – and we’re more than glad that he did.
K-pop is here to stay
Over the years, K-pop has been garnering a cult-like following across the globe – so it’s no surprise that members of BTS, BLACKPINK, SEVENTEEN, and TXT swept the European awards ceremony last night. BLACKPINK’s Lisa was awarded Best K-pop, to the relief of millions of adoring fans. Unsurprisingly, BTS’ tremendous ‘Army’ put them on track to win Biggest Fans. The newcomers of SEVENTEEN were graced with the Best New Artist award, adding fuel to the already blazing fire. And, TXT won Best Asia Act – marking a monumental milestone for the boy band. With bases in Korea and now Europe covered, these stars are set for world domination.
Naija no dey carry last
The piping-hot Afrobeats artist, Burna Boy, repped Nigeria with his third win for the Best Africa Act. Having previously won the same category in both 2019 and 2020 – this triple threat cements his place in history as an Afrobeats trailblazer. Songs of his, like “Last Last” have been explosive sensations – and with another win under his belt, we’re excited to see what he cooks up next.
We’re picking up what Taylor Swift is putting down
Tapping into the crystal-encrusted vibe of her latest album, Taylor Swift once again made a statement on the red carpet. Turning out a trio of looks, she is keeping the fans fed, with theories popping up all over the internet. No stranger to an easter egg, the mastermind behind “Midnights” hinted at the rumoured release of Reputation Taylor’s Version through snakeskin-style scales and a not-so-subtle snake ring alongside paying homage to her “Bejewelled” era in a glittering David Koma number.
Bebe Rexha is feeling blue
Bebe Rexha certainly caught our attention last night, donning this electric blue ensemble from the Kosovo-based designer Fjolla Nila. Sporting a head to toe velvet bodysuit, the look was completed with a huge statement flower around the artist’s waist. This was certainly the stand-out look from the entire awards show, and if her aim was to catch our attention – then she definitely succeeded.
Our golden girl came through with some meme potential
Swifties are buzzing about this accidental meme moment during the ceremony. It’s giving – “It’s me, hi. I’m the problem it’s me.”
