“Signs of love” is Director Clarence Fuller’s emotional full feature debut on the big screen, starring on-and off-screen siblings Dylan and Hopper Penn, and real life mother and daughter Rosanna and Zoe Bleu Arquette. A bloodline packed cast, the story follows Frankie (Hopper Penn), a young man selling narcotics on the streets of Northern Philadelphia to provide for his older sister, nephew, and dad.

Hoping for a better tomorrow when so embroiled in the hierarchies of Philly’s crime-ridden streets seemed impossible for Frankie until he meets Jane, a deaf-mute girl from a wealthy family embodying the ideal that Frankie wants to aspire to. It’s a life far from the predicaments of the streets, substance violence, and family hardships. But when that is all you have ever known, it’s hard not to be affected by it.

Frankie’s drama is extremely moving as he contextualizes himself in his surrounding, as a possibility for his life to turn around for the best is incapacitated by his loved ones, and the fear that by abandoning them his young nephew, Sean ( interpreted by Cree Kawa) would fall into the same destiny he’s pursued. The protagonist’s quest for self-improvement slowly turns into a poignant rumination on belonging.
