PREMIERE: AYONI – “THE VISION”

The Barbados-born multi-instrumentalist unveils a kaleidoscopic new video as part of latest EP.

Trailblazing artist Ayoni’s soaring new EP “The Vision” leaves us with a feat of uplifting self-assurance in its final track “Vision” – a display of genre-bending artistry synthesises her eclectic sources of inspiration such as island soul, ethereal pop, and funk.

What results is a form of manifestation – with the artist noting, “I’ve always struggled to appreciate steady growth, especially in a world that worships clout, but ‘Vision’ has really pushed me to prioritise the process.” The idea of having tunnel vision when it comes to self-actualisation is a message that’ll undoubtedly resonate with many – inspiring people to stick to their “vision” despite all odds. The Barbadian artist is a global citizen; as a child, she moved between Singapore, Indonesia, and the US. Now, she flits between London and LA – and her worldly knowledge evidently sets her apart from the rest. Not to mention her identity as a queer Black woman, which means she’s wise to some very real truths about the society we live in. Nonetheless, she undoubtedly carved her place in the music industry. And, with upcoming concerts in London and Paris, there’s no sign of her slowing down.

Vision’s cinematic quality is brought to the surface by a kaleidoscopic gem of a music video. The visuals are surreal, yet grounded; flitting the line between dream and consciousness. Light features as a motif, giving it an unearthly, ethereal feel. Throughout, it is reflected and refracted – creating dazzling distortions and illuminations. With this, Ayoni lights the path on a journey of self-discovery and fulfilment, and we will be sure to follow.
