PREMIERE: LESS KILLJOY – “MY PARADE”

The genre-traversing rising talent shares second track from upcoming debut EP, “Pink Grenade”.

LESS KILLJOY

LESS KILLJOY has one goal with her work. “I hope my music will speak for itself,” she explains, “because for real, that’s the only way I know how to express myself and interact with humans and there’s a lot I want to say.” If tracks like latest offering, “My Parade”, continue to be the by-product of such expression, this mode of offloading more than suits us.

The bruised but bolshy, dejection-defying cut sees LESS KILLJOY scold someone who is killing her inimitable vibes – “Sun’s coming up, I’m losing sleep, the things you say stay with me,” she sings. Laden with lo-fi guitar loops, attention-grabbing 808s, and insistent beats, LESS KILLJOY’s tinged but assertive vocals still emerge as the centrepiece of the track that’s inspired by a quest for happiness for herself and those around her.

Amidst buoyant production, the diaristic lyricism of LESS KILLJOY is ripe for connecting with young audiences and especially those feeling despondent. Creating a safe community where everyone’s welcome, regardless of race, sexuality, gender, and socioeconomic background is crucial to the Toronto act – “My Parade” looks set only to grow the body of listeners already fixed on her next move.
