Making a musical debut is no easy task to undertake, but, making it look easy is the incomparable Daniel Seavey. Granted, the graceful arrival of his debut solo single, “Can We Pretend That We’re Good?” can be accredited to his already whirlwind of a journey through the music industry as a part of his uber-successful band, Why Don’t We. But now, some 6 years in, the artist is branching out on his own, starting with this captivating new cut. With the artist calling on a rock-tinged instrumental backing and his electric vocal prowess, the song commands attention instantly, proving that this solo leg of his musical journey is to be one overflowing with potential.

And to add fuel to this already blazing fire of a release, we have been blessed with its accompanying music video. With Seavey taking to a deserted church, joined by an ominous-yet-sultry veiled figure, viewers are offered a cinematic ode to both his past and present, simultaneously.

“This song and video summarise me and my life in many ways. From where I am from to who I am today, to how I think and feel – you’ll get a true sense of who I am from it all,” the artist tells us. “I grew up in Portland, so it was really special to get to go back and film my first music video there. I wanted this video to encapsulate me as a person as well as my upbringing as best as I could. I grew up in church and was actually a pastor’s kid. Church life was a sort of bubble for me growing up that separated me from the rest of the world. The irony and juxtaposition of it all is that when music started taking off for me, I toured the whole world and saw it for all that it was, good and bad. It all left me with a lot of wisdom and even more questions.”
