HENDRICK’S: THE CUCUMBER CHRONICLES

It’s fair to say cucumbers are in the supreme class of vegetables. From refreshing side salads, sandwich fillers, and chopped batons to dunk into that jar of hummus – their purposes are endless. But perhaps they really are put to best use when embellishing another thing we love so much – a refreshing gin.

Ayrshire gin makers, Hendrick’s, are obsessed with the elongated, cylindrical things, tying them to their heavenly brand of the spirit for years now. A Hendrick’s gin and tonic without a slice of cucumber slipped in, isn’t really a Hendrick’s gin and tonic, after all. They bring their curiosity with the vegetable to life on The Cucumber Chronicles, telling the story of the Hendrick’s Master Distiller, Ms Lesley Gracie’s quest to forage for the most peculiar cucumber seeds to exist. Their pursuit to grow the most unusual cucumber possible is brought to life by London-based entertainment and talent management company, COMPULSORY, and directed by emerging film director, Harry Deadman and photographer, Blackksocks.

“It was so much fun telling this beautifully absurd story of the long-standing Hendrick’s cucumber obsession,” Deadman says. “As soon as I saw that Hendrick’s wanted to tell a story based solely around cucumbers, I was completely sold. I love to create bold, colourful films that highlight something unexpected or unusual, so this felt right at home!”
