LEICA GALLERY LONDON × HOLLY-MARIE CATO

The gallery hosts Holly-Marie Cato’s debut project throughout the month of October.

Announcing the debut solo exhibition from photographer and Leica Ambassador Holly-Marie Cato, Leica Gallery London Gallery marks the beginning of Black History Month, within which they introduce Heavy is the Mantle. Following the extraordinary Herbet Cato in the testing days before he stepped down as presiding Bishop of City Mission Church, the short film encapsulates her fascination with Christianity within the Caribbean community, the overwhelming elation that permeates a congregation and the behind-closed-door burdens that lay upon church leaders, who carry the responsibilities that uphold the institution and ensure its messages are passed onto each generation.

Talking of the exhibition, Holly-Marie Cato comments, “Over the month of October, we want to celebrate Black pioneering photographers who have pushed the visual narrative. Photographers who have not been celebrated enough from the legendary Charlie Philips to Leica grant recipient Renee Maria Osubu. We want to shine a light on their work in a series of four talks hosted by leading Black photographers and aimed at championing new voices, while also inviting a younger, more diverse audience through the doors of Leica Store Mayfair and Leica Gallery London.”

From October 1st to November 1st, the exhibition will show a selection of imagery from the series — available to view at the Leica Gallery London at 64-66 Duke Street, W1K 6JD. For more information, click here
