“I think that I owe a lot of that to you, Ti, and I think filming X led me up to Pearl. I just felt a little less confident on the set of X. Sometimes it can be to your detriment when you love something so much or you care about something so much – or you want it to be perfect to such an extent – it can really freeze you up. I just remember a handful of times, I would cut a scene in the middle of shooting and say, ‘No Ti, it’s not working, let’s start up again.’ That bothered you and I’m sure it bothered a lot of people. I remember when we were in Wellington after we had wrapped X, we had lunch at a café on Cuba Street and we had a conversation. You said, ‘Look, Mia, just go with it. If it’s a bad take, it’s a bad take. It’s not the end of the world, just relax and have fun with it!’ I really heard that, and I took that on board. It was at the front of my mind walking onto the Pearl set. And you were right, it worked and I just felt more free.”
