Psychedelic-rock group Joudy were forced to flee Venezuela, individually, in 2017, at the height of their success. Despite the desolate prospects they assumed were laid ahead for the band, the trio have now established themselves as a mainstay in Brooklyn’s rock scene. Not only on the cusp of releasing their Spanish-language earlier records, La Bestia and Obertura, to streaming services for the first time, but the three-piece also have a brand-new English and Spanish language LP, Destroy All Monsters on the way in 2023, beginning with momentous lead single “Uneasy”.

The new releases signal the resumption of normal service for the group, at least a semblance of it, after a challenging journey onwards. Individual circumstances meant Joudy’s members left Venezuela years apart from each other, and despite their critically-acclaimed run of releases in the country prior, the fate of the band in their new home was assumed bleak. However, when Hulrich Navas (drums) eventually joined Gabriel Gavidia (bass) and Diego Ramirez (vocals/guitar) in The Big Apple, some three years after Ramirez moved over and even longer since Gavidia had, they were finally able to practice together again and return to what they do best. Their new music marries their history with the impossible challenges they’ve overcome both personally and professionally since we last heard from them.

Those in NYC can catch Joudy’s new chapter at iconic intimate concert venue Berlin, in their weekly September residence, with performances on September 15th, 22nd and 29th.
