Dreamers long to inhabit Los Angeles, the city where dreams are made of etc, etc. However, for Hunter Daily, a native of Tinsletown, the bright lights’ allure doesn’t prove so blinding, as the 26-year-old, also a guest star on HBO’s Billions, highlights on new single “Die In LA”. Contrasting her natural love for her hometown with a desire to leave its downsides behind, “I don’t wanna die in LA,” she asserts on the track, an instantly transfixing pop ballad, with expertly assembled lyricism.
“‘Die In LA’ is about being from LA and never feeling like I can leave or see other places because of the industry I’ve chosen,” Daily explains. Everyone else gets to make that leap to follow their dreams and come here to LA or wherever to follow their dreams, but when you’re from here and in this industry, you’re forced to stay put. This song is about my longing to see more of the world and escape some of the monotony that is LA.”
The track is the first in a run of singles executively produced by industry heavyweight producer Jenna Andrews, responsible for some of the past couple of years’ most ubiquitous global hits in the form of BTS’ “Dynamite” and “Butter”. The perfect pairing for Daily’s chronicles of love, nostalgia, heartbreak, and self-discovery, the two combine to craft head-turning pop music, set only to propel Daily to pop’s upper echelons.
