Lil Nas X brought a heck of a lot more than just beauty looks to this year’s MTV Video Music Awards black carpet, with the “Old Town Road” hitmaker dazzling in the extravagance of his Harris Reed ensemble, led by a black, feathered headdress that made the rapper spottable from a mile off. We’re assuming a quick change occurred before sitting down for the show, otherwise, all audience members in the rows behind would’ve required a booster seat, or ten, to see the night’s action. However, that is if anyone in the crowd could clasp their attention away from Nas X’s eyes, as blue metallic blades of eyeliner shot down from his bottom lids. Maybe an eye kit should be on the cards if the looks are this sharp?

A round of applause to the three stick-on diamantés that shone from underneath Jordan Daniels’ tear ducts this week, in this selfie taken on set, with the New Zealand model proving, yes, it is possible to be yet more transfixed by her entrancing brown irises. Coupled with a light portion of blood-red eye shadow and classic nude lip gloss, the handywork of MUA Mark de los Reyes (@makeurmark), plus an entanglement of plaits tying knots around her neck styled by Joey George (@joeygeorge), Daniels was as primed as we’ve come to expect for an evidently showstopping shoot.

In a dystopian, barren world one would apparently find Alexa Demie looking flawless in Balenciaga’s latest garms’. Joining stars like Kim Kardashian in the brand’s Winter 22 campaign, Demie is like a style oasis in the infertile land, proving she’s not just a queen of Euphoria, but the deserted, cracked ground she finds herself on. Her minimalist, no-make-up look accentuates her natural radiance, and the chunky, gold earrings in the clutch of her talon-clad fingers, mirror her shine. Dystopian or not, wherever this place is, if there are looks like this on the go, we’ll have a one-way ticket.

Joining Lil Nas X at the VMAs and now also in this round-up, Dove Cameron served up seduction in bucket loads with this bronze siren eye look and chunky pigtail plaits. Not only a night for winning in the beauty stakes, but Cameron also picked up the gong for Best New Artist at the ceremony, dedicating the award to all of her queer fans in an emotional acceptance speech, and fitting in a hug with noughties grunge-pop legend Avril Lavigne in the process. A winner all around, and don’t we love to see our Dove flying high?

A team-up we didn’t see coming was between gen-z heartbreak anthem maestro, Olivia Rodrigo, and the piano man himself, legendary songwriter Billy Joel. However, as videos surfaced of the pair belting out “Uptown Girl” to thousands of fans at Maddison Square Garden this week, we realised it’s a meeting of two musical institutions that simply makes sense, just like the classic glamour pairing of the scarlet lip and matching nails Rodrigo chose to greet the legend with.
