Jazmine Flowers’ brooding new cut “detached” documents that crippling regret that’s sometimes hard to avoid after a one-night stand. “I loved the word ‘detached’”, the Oxford-raised, 22-year-old explains. “And, the image of that classic film scene; the character wakes up the morning after a one-night stand, their arm stuck under the person they hooked up with, they have to wriggle and slide it out without them noticing, then run out the house!”

Told through Flowers’ lexicon of diaristic relatability, “detached” unravels in the chorus with the instantly irresistible hook “Don’t get too attached” – Flowers’ plea to herself not to catch those post-hookup feels. It’s yet more evidence of Flowers’, also a TikTok star with 121k followers, ever-accelerating ascent to the cream of the alt-R&B genre, which one would imagine will soon see her a peer of illustrious acts like Kehlani, BANKS, and Sevdaliza.

The LGBTQIA+ artist is a captivating listen even when not performing – she recently appeared on the Anthems podcast, as part of their Pride series, proving herself as a force for good both in song and beyond.
