PREMIERE: SYLVIE – “DULL THE SHIMMER”

The multi-talented London artist pulls through with another idiosyncratic electronic cut.

There’s much to unpack in the stunning sonic space of Sylvie. “I never fell from grace, I just took someone else’s place,” they assert in their second track of the year ahead of an upcoming debut EP. The brooding, busy track is spearheaded by the alchemic textures in the synth and bass-heavy production, with Sylvie’s acidic lyrical persona and protracted rhythms channelled captivatingly through a vocoder.

A Suffolk university graduate, Sylvie studied songwriting, as well as training in piano, vocals and composition, with these long-harboured skills now suffused in their deft ability for intricate songcraft. They not only exhibit their natural capacity as a compelling front-person of their work, but equally, it’s auteur, in the distinctive direction they’ve established independently.

With their debut EP “Particles of Paranoia” on the way, set to explore coming of age, breaking cycles, and unwaveringly candid accounts of mental illness and mental health services, “Dull The Shimmer” has got us only yearning for more.
