PREMIERE: ADI OASIS – “RED TO VIOLET” (FEAT. JAMILA WOODS)

The French-Caribbean multi-hyphenate pairs with Jamila Woods for a mesmerising new track with sharp societal critique.

If you could imagine the coming together of two artistic powerhouses, into a cohesive, considered collaborative effort, you would envisage “Red To Violet”. The culmination of jazz, funk, and R&B, in singer, bassist and producer Adi Oasis’ brand of luxurious soul is exhibited in all its resplendency on the track. The divine, syrupy-voiced contributions of Jamila Woods (previous collaborator of Chance the Rapper, Mykki Blanco, Macklemore, and Bonobo) naturally complement, making for a woozy cut with a groove that’s simply impossible to ignore.

The track offers a critique on authenticity, family and power, “it is an ode to women of colour,” Oasis says. “It’s declaring ‘It’s our turn to be put in positions of power, to be heard, and be valued and accepted in all areas of society, and that includes nonbinary and transgender people.” A homage to women including Ketanji Brown Jackson, Stacey Abrams, AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) “and all the other Black and Brown women out there who are taking charge and making change.”
