Yugambeh/Kombumerri-based Jesswar’s new single, “Hefty” sees the rapper embrace the sounds of New York rap of yesteryear with sinister piano strikes, laced with a stripped-back beat, and Jesswar’s return to their bolshie lyrical persona (“What you want? Disrespect, then we hit ‘em with a one-two-one.”), after last month’s more tender release “Fell In Love”.

It’s the latest track taken from their freshly announced debut mixtape, “LIFE’S SHORT, LIVE BIG”, out September 23rd, pegged as a more candid look at the sensitivities and route to self-acceptance of the rap force. Hailed as a re-birth for the artist, it is safe to say that “Hefty” is just the beginning of what is shaping up to be an exceptional new era for Jesswar.
