While summer may be slowly drawing to a close, and seasonal friends may be going their separate ways, Rosie Darling is here to lift spirits with the perfect soundtrack to accompany the upcoming transition into autumn.

With indie-pop vocals and open-hearted lyrics, the LA-based artist, best comparable to the likes of Holly Humberstone drops her EP “Golden Age”. A project dedicated to themes of navigating your emotions, love lost in and lost youth as a result of lockdown, the project is soul-baring at its core. Darling’s candid lyrics are backed by climactic beats and infectious lyrics. Her approach to her work is founded on sincerity, resulting in an incredibly intimate relationship with her fans, fans who have already racked up over 40 million streams of the EP. Speaking about her work Darling confesses, “If your art is authentic, it will reach its potential without having to think about it. I’m telling stories and putting myself into the lyrics.”

Upon the release of the project, Darling took the time to give us a track-by-track overview of her new EP. Head below to enjoy…

“Golden Age”

This song, being the title track, embodies the main themes throughout the rest of the EP that I wanted to capture! It’s sort of a mix of emotions about life, grief, and how everything was heightened during the pandemic and we were all trying to process it all together while also still feeling isolated at home.

“Fucked Up Summer”

I love this song so much! I had written this song a couple of years ago and it felt like the right time to revamp it and release it on the EP. Naturally, Summer lends itself to be a time where people break up because of distance and travelling or what not, and so I wanted to write a summer break-up anthem describing that!

“What A Convincing Illusion”

This song is reminiscent of the sounds on my first EP, but is also a little bit faster in tempo! I love to write ballads but I wanted to push myself to write something a little faster while still also feeling authentic to me and some of the music I have previously released.

“Say Less”

This one might be my favourite! I love how it’s short and it makes me want to listen to it on repeat! It’s sort of just a big rant about feeling frustrated in life and in my generation where there is so much happening all of the time that it can feel hard to find meaning. I hope people will relate and connect with this song the most because it really does feel like a rant of all of the thoughts in my brain haha.

“Always Almost”

This song is definitely sad! I love how this song feels like it could be the soundtrack to your favourite sad movie. It’s very cinematic and the music video played a huge role in the vision for the song; I think a lot of people can relate to feeling like there is always one person who seems like the one that got away.
